Fox News confirmó a The Daily Beast que el presidente ejecutivo ya está fuera de la compañía. Ailes se llevaría al menos USD 40 millones tras dejar su cargo. La noticia se produce horas después de que se conociera una nueva denuncia por acoso contra el directivo.
Fuentes cercanas al caso revelaron a New York Magazine que Kelly, de 45 años, relató a las autoridades que Ailes hizo “avances sexuales no deseados hacia ella” 10 años atrás, cuando era una joven corresponsal de Fox.
Kelly, conocida por su pelea explosiva con Donald Trump, se encuentra en negociaciones con el canal, ya que podría convertirse –en un futuro cercano– en la reemplazante del periodista Bill O’Reilly, que expresó su deseo de retirarse.
La periodista, que se ha convertido en algo así como un ícono feminista gracias a sus enredos con el controvertido candidato republicano, tiene un gran futuro en el canal. Fox no podía permitirse el lujo de perderla.
Ailes se encontraba en la mira desde el mes pasado, cuando la reportera Gretchen Carlson lo demandó ante una corte de los EEUU, alegando que le había hecho insinuaciones en repetidas oportunidades.
Además adujo que luego de que ella rechazara tener relaciones sexuales con él, Ailes tomó represalias en su contra: le bajó el salario, le redujo el tiempo al aire y, posteriormente, se negó a renovarle el contrato.
La denuncia –según varios reportes– ha generado que otra media docena de mujeres también afirmasen haber sido acosadas por el alto ejecutivo.
